This Holiday!
Friendship Week
Hi, next week is friendship week. We will have a friendship week assembly and children will learn about how to be a good friend. In social studies all the elementary students will be starting a program called ‘Stop and Think’ which teaches student social skills. Next week in ESL our spellings will be words related to friendship week. We will spend time learning these words and understanding how to apply them to our life.
Reading Assesmment
On Monday your child may have told they did a reading test. Every student from kindergarten to Grade 5 was given a reading assessment. This is different from a test in that there is no pass or fail. The reading analysis enables us to see exactly where your child is in their reading levels. We can see their strengths and weaknesses in reading accuracy, fluency and comprehension. In the younger grades we look at word attack skills to see how well they are able to decode and sound out words. From this we can help your child make individual reading goals, we can work on specific skills in class and help them become stronger readers.
In ESL we will do the same assessment again in December and May. We are looking for individual student growth and we hope that students can see their progress.
